Welcome

Whittier SchoolWhittier Elementary School is located in the heart of Morningside. It was built in 1902 and has had several additions and remodeling projects since then. Whittier has staff members who are dedicated to providing the best academic, social and emotional opportunities for our students.

In addition to the curriculum provided by all Sioux City schools, Whittier offers several other unique programs. We are presently the school site in the Morningside area for students needing English As a Second Language "ESL" classes. Whittier also is a center for several Morningside schools offering "Beyond the Bell" services.

Whittier has a performing fifth grade chorus and offers various extra curricular activities to its students including TAG, DARE, Safety Patrol, Art Club and Jr PTO. Our parent-teacher organization (PTO) is very active and sponsors several unique activities throughout the year.

The Whittier School "Wildcats" are proud of our school and follow the motto of TEAM - "Together Everyone Achieves More!" and believe that "Good Things Happen to Good Children."

A Message from the Principal

It is with pleasure that I serve as the Whittier Elementary School principal. “We are all in this together” to ensure that we continue, with integrity, our motto - “achievement no matter what.” That is, as parents/guardians, you are valuable partners with our students and staff in meeting everyday expectations regarding attendance, social skills, and work habits that support student achievement.

You will have many opportunities throughout the school year to be actively involved in your child’s education. You are encouraged to become a member of the PTO, attend school functions, and volunteer in classrooms. Perhaps your schedule permits a more subtle demonstration of involvement through regularly reading at home with your child, helping with homework, or discussing classroom or school events.

Thank you in advance for your individual and collective efforts to support our school.
